A Wedding Web Site, or "Wedsite" can be a
great way to share your wedding details with friends and family all over the globe. You can share the story of how you met to your engagement, pictures from your relationship and show off that engagement
ring. You can fill it with details like directions and maps, times and dates, and registry information - you can even have guests RSVP online! After the wedding turn your site in to a family site and add
your new home, children - what ever changes in your life you want to share with the world.
Creating your first webpage can be a lot of fun but it can also be little intimidating. Luckily there are plenty of resources available for brides- and grooms-to-be or anyone interested in a webpage. Here's a bit on the actual building of your site:
Some wedding planning sites offer a free templated
pages to contain wedding information. These are simple to use, all it requires is the filling out of a form. This is a good way to share basic information with guests but does offer some limitations.
If you want to go a step farther you can get a free
website from many servers. These are just a few:
These are empty sites so you will need to have a
web editing program (Netobjects Fusion or Microsoft Frontpage are easy to use what-you-see-is-what-you-get software packages) or some knowledge of html to create your site. Some providers, like Geocities,
offer a free online web editor for simple pages.
Also, check with your internet service provider to see what they have to offer. You may have web space provided free through your service that you don't even know about. Once you start you'll need to organize your pages and decide what info you want to include. Here are a few ideas:
- Ceremony and reception information
- Your registry and links to the store's webpages
- Bachelor and bachelorette party and shower dates
- Maps and links to wedding and reception site
- Accommodations and information for out-of-town guests
- Links to your vendors
- Rehearsal dinner information
- Honeymoon information
- Photos of the bridal party
- Information on the Bride and Groom and the engagement
- Pictures of the couple
A Guest Book or Message Board is a good way to get
feedback and well wishes from visitors to your site. Most web hosting companies provide a guestbook but there are a few other places to get them:
Purchasing your own domain name (i.e.
www.frankandsue.com) is a good idea. This makes your URL something family and friends can remember and access easily. Now Register.com will let you buy one year for $35 or the standard 2 years at $70.
So you're all ready to go!
Finding this all a bit tedious? Have a Wedsite designed for you! The designer of this site can create one unique to you - check it out!
